business briefs Proterra closes $23M in financing Proterra Inc. closed a $23 million Series B financing round amid rising demand for its transit solutions. Proterra has tripled orders under contract for the company's flagship EcoRide from public transit agencies in the past 12 months alone and is planning for its current growth path to continue. The round was led by new investor, Hennessey Capital, who joined additional outside investor NMT Capital as well as existing investors, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, GM Ventures, Mitsui & Co. Global Investment Inc., 88 Green Ventures and Vision Ridge Partners. In conjunction with the investment closing, Rajiv Ghatalia will join Proterra's board as an advisor. NASHVILLE ORDERS 70 NEW FLYERS Nashville Metropolitan Transit Authority (Nashville MTA) awarded New Flyer 62 < mETRO mAGAZINE JANUARY 2013 Industries Inc. a contract for 70 (140 equivalent units or EUs) Xcelsior dieselelectric hybrid 60-foot articulated heavy- duty buses. The three-year contract, with two years of renewable options, contains a firm order for 10 buses (20 EUs) with options for an additional 60 buses (120 EUs). Production of the 10 buses is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2013, with all buses expected to be delivered by May 2013. TEMSA DELIVERS TS35 TO ALA. Dothan, Ala.-based Southern Coaches Inc. purchased two new Temsa TS35 coaches from CH Bus Sales. The TS35 coaches are equipped with a Cummins ISL engine, Allison B500 transmission and three-point seat belts. Southern Coaches' new TS35s seat 36 passengers and feature state of the art sound and video systems, 110-volt plug outlets and Wi-Fi capability. metro-magazine.com
