business briefs Greyhound orders 130 MCIs Motor Coach Industries will deliver 130 MCI D4505 coaches to Greyhound Lines as part of a two-year contract. Greyhound's new D4505s will reflect the company's updated look and come equipped with wheelchair lifts and digital amenities, including WiFi and power outlets at all passenger seats. The new coaches also come with threepoint passenger seat belts and lush leatherette seating for 50. GREYHOUND TO ADD 90 PREVOSTS Greyhound and Prevost will continue their relationship with the signing of a new order for 90 X3-45 motorcoaches. The 90 X3-45s are equipped with Prevost's AWARE safety system, which includes adaptive cruise braking, following distance alert and stationary object alert. ALSTOM, LILEE DEVELOP PTC SOLUTION Alstom and Lilee Systems developed an interoperable train control solution that for the first time ofers the industry a wayside interface unit with systems management agent functionality. The partners' joint positive train control ofering is built on Alstom's microWIU Wayside Interface Unit and addresses two fundamental priorities — safety and smart management of the railroad's wayside signaling and train control equipment. The joint ofering is available immediately to rail operators in the U.S. and Canada. 70 < mETRO mAGAZINE JUNE 2013 NOVA DELIVERS LFS' TO ONTARIO Ontario, Canada-based Sudbury Transit took delivery of three new Nova LFS buses with newly-designed interiors. Sudbury received their first Nova LFS buses in 1998. Their new buses are easier to maintain compared to previous models. Changes include a seamless floor, cantilevered seat legs and wall extrusions that have fewer dust traps. The redesigned rear tunnel also improves access to main components. NEW FLYER TO SUPPLY CNG BUSES TO EL PASO, TEXAS El Paso, Texas-based Sun Metro awarded New Flyer a contract for up to 202 Xcelsior compressed natural gas (CNG) heavy-duty buses. The five-year contract contains a firm order for 13 CNG 60foot buses and nine CNG 40-foot buses. Additionally, the contract includes four, one-year options for up to 108 60-foot and up to 72 40-foot CNG buses. The first 22 buses are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2014. FIRST TRANSIT RETAINED IN PHOENIX First Transit was retained by the City of Phoenix to continue operating and managing its Valley Metro fixed-route service. With the extension, the company will continue overseeing 375 employees and operating 146 vehicles throughout the city. Currently, First Transit transports more than 12.8 million riders within Phoenix and the neighboring communities of Avondale, Glendale, Goodyear, Peoria and Scottsdale. The contract takes efect in July. GILLIG SUPPLIES AC TRANSIT BUSES Oakland, Calif.-based AC Transit unveiled the first of 65 new, 40-foot Gillig buses. It is the first step toward upgrading a fleet of nearly 700 buses by opting to buy as many as 300 American-made buses over the next two years to replace aging, less dependable vehicles. AC Transit's contract with Gillig provided dozens of local jobs, spurred local business and stimulated the regional economy, according to Gillig and AC Transit. MV WINS OCTA CONTRACT MV Transportation Inc. was awarded a contract to operate the ACCESS paratransit service for the Calif.based Orange County Transportation Authority. MV will assume operations and maintenance of the ACCESS paratransit service on July 1, 2013 for a four-year base period with two, two-year renewal options. The service will be provided using a clientfurnished fleet of 248 service vehicles, as well as a smaller fleet of taxicabs and accessible vehicles. ABC DELIVERS M1235S TO MICH.
