METRO's coaches will be equipped with wheelchair lifts; 55 forward-facing seats with individual overhead LED reading lights and airfow controls; and parcel racks. UTAH ADDS SMARTDRIVE SOLUTION The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) selected SmartDrive Systems to provide its video-based operator performance and safety program for its nearly 600 buses and paratransit vehicles. By mid-2014, UTA will begin using SmartDrive Safety in-vehicle recorders to capture video and vehicle data during its bus and paratransit vehicles' daily routes. BYD unveils frst U.S.-made bus California Gov. Jerry Brown joined a host of local, state and company ofcials at the unveiling of BYD's frst California-made, all-electric 40-foot rapid transit bus at a ceremony held at BYD's new Lancaster, Calif. plant in April. BYD's new plant has added 60 new jobs for American workers, with the company expecting to increase the number of new jobs created to 100 by the end of the year, while adding 200 more by the end of next year. CUBIC TO EXPAND CALIF. CLIPPER SMART CARD SYSTEM Cubic Transportation Systems received a $7.5 million add-on contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to expand the Clipper card fare payment system to more than a dozen suburban transit agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area. The system will enhance travel options for commuters in parts of the East and North Bay.
