And, it is crucial that as many area fre and ambulance departments (these are sometimes separate agencies) are involved as possible, since these FD and EMS workers will be the ones doing rescue and treatment for victims. One needs to include any department that might have to respond to an incident. On Long Island, where I live, units all over both counties (and possibly Brooklyn and Queens as well) on the island might respond, along with PD and county- based responders. The volunteer ambulance corps I dispatch for recently held a MCI (Mass Casualty Incident) drill involving a school shooting. For our fairly small drill we had units from all over Sufolk County. Post drill analysis showed us ways we could improve and streamline our response. I'd like to see a lot more train and bus related drills.
