the community it serves. Additionally, the GLX project is in the early stages of considering the use of the Institute of Sustainable Infrastruc- ture's Envision rating system. Only two years old, this system is made for proj- ects like the GLX and could be a benef - cial system if the MBTA pursues formal certif cation. PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT For a team that is working within con- strained spaces, quite literally in peo- ple's back yards, on tight deadlines and under close scrutiny by future users, one of the key success stories of the project is the public engagement program that has allowed for open dialogue between the MBTA , the project team, and sur- rounding communities to understand key concerns and share solutions. P u b l i c m e e t i n g s h av e b e e n , a n d continue to be, held often, utilizing venues that are easily accessible by public transit to encourage public par- ticipation. "The GL X project is truly the com- munities' project," says Ainsley. "As such, we want to do everything we can to ensure people are given the oppor- tunity to par ticipate and have their voices heard." T h e d e s i g n t e a m i s c o m m i t t e d t o solving residents' concerns.
